Know Your Story (knowyourstory.org) helps people gather the journal of their conversations with God and compile it into publications that tell of His faithfulness. Because that work involves some of the most personal words a person can write, we hold ourselves to a simple standard, in plain language, here.
Your story belongs to you. We collect as little as possible, we never sell your information, and nothing you write is ever shared or processed without your explicit permission.
What happens today Current
Right now, knowyourstory.org is a single announcement page. Here is everything it does with your information:
The email signup
- What we collect: the email address you type into the signup form — nothing else. Providing it is entirely voluntary.
- Why: to send you occasional Know Your Story updates — the launch announcement, and a note or two a month — and for no other purpose.
- Where it's stored: in our database, hosted by Supabase on servers located in the United States. Because the data leaves Canada, it may be accessible to authorities in that country under local law.
- How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability, as virtually every website's host does.
When the full service launches Not yet active
We're telling you now, ahead of time, how the full Know Your Story service will handle your information — so nothing will surprise you later. None of the following happens until the service launches and you choose to use it. This policy will be updated (with a new effective date and version) before these features go live.
Your journal entries
- Journal entries you write at SimplyLectio remain private to you. Know Your Story can only see an entry if you explicitly choose to share that entry — one by one or in groups you select. Nothing syncs silently, and you can revoke a shared entry at any time.
- We treat your entries as sensitive personal information: they contain reflections about your faith and your life. They are protected by database rules that make each person's entries readable by that person alone.
AI processing — an important disclosure
- To organize your entries by theme and draft your publications, we send the text of only the entries you have shared to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model. This happens only after you have given explicit consent, and you may withdraw that consent whenever you wish.
- Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, content sent through the API is not used to train their AI models.
- Every AI-drafted publication comes back to you as a draft that you review, edit, and approve. Nothing is published or shared unless you choose to share it.
Accounts, payments, and sharing
- Accounts: one login will work across SimplyLectio and Know Your Story, stored with Supabase.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Your publications: private by default. If you turn on sharing for a publication, it becomes visible only to people who have its private link, and you can turn sharing off again at any time.
- Deleting your account: will permanently remove your account, journal entries, shared-entry records, publications, and consents from our database.
Your rights
We follow Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA — the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy;
- correct information that's inaccurate;
- withdraw your consent at any time;
- ask us to delete your information.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@knowyourstory.org. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
Know Your Story is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date and version number. If a change affects how your journal entries are handled, we'll ask for your consent again rather than assuming it.
